Comedy

I am a comedy newbie, with a pedigree in making people laugh, just because.... I'm ridiculous and love to see people happy.

My Management Credentials

First and foremost my vocation is to make a positive difference in the lives of children and families. I qualified as a social worker 1992, I went straight into a management post. I am committed to on going personal growth and development thus I have undertaken too many to mention post graduate qualifications.

I have 30 years Social Care and Health experience which includes 26 years management experience; 19 years at strategic management level. My career has included both employed and consultant contracts. I worked extensively for the Public, Third and Private sector. My expertise in cultural intelligence has been gain whilst working within diverse urban cities such as London, Leeds and Birmingham I have also worked for National Companies and Charities which operated across the four County’s.

My most recent position; Director of Service Delivery.

Service Delivery

I have had management responsibility for every aspect and specialism within Children’s Social Care. As such I have developed policies and procedures, process mapped, workforce planned, inspected and quality assured every area of children’s social work.

My Specialisms include;

• Fostering • Adoption • Residential Care • Respite Care • Children with Disabilities & Complex Health Needs • Children in Need • Children in Care

My Leadership Mission Statement

I am a pragmatic leader, with the ability to harness the needs of service users, the organisation and the key stakeholders. From which I create a clear vision with a sign posted Strategic Plan. My vision incorporates local and national agendas, with a supportive infrastructure of policies, procedures and systems and services to support the core business while embedding a learning and a developing cultural with communication at the core.

Management Style

I have an eclectic management style which is based on the principles of the ‘Effective Manager’ together with the business acumen I learnt from my role models such as Richard Branson & Oprah Winfrey, who have harnessed their own natural entrepreneurial flair with creativity to develop a winning combination. My management style is also tailored to meet the needs of the organisation & service delivery.

People Management

I have managed organisations, departments and small teams. With people from diverse professional disciplines, age, experience, background, culture, gender, religion and reasons for being, etc. I am enthralled by the complexity of managing people.

Managing people is a skill. I always start by treating people the way I would like to be treated. With respect, valued, with appreciation and compassion. But my focus is always the needs of the service i.e the children must come first!

Risk Management

Are you risk adverse or are you a gambler? For me the answer depends on what is at risk.

Finance Management

I have extensive finance management experience which includes policies, procedures development & implementation, responsibility and accountability. The largest budget I managed was £8million.

Procurement and Contract Monitoring

In all my Strategic roles I have had responsibility for procurement and contract monitoring. I have a natural contractual mind thus I began drafting contracts and service level agreements without any formal training after encountering some really poor examples of contracts which exposed the Local Authority to financial penalties and inadequate practice. I subsequently acquired local government training in Procurement and Contract management.

HR

As a Manager and then as a Strategic manager I have had responsibility for the direct and indirect management and implementation of Human Resources policies and procedures. Usually when I start work with a new organisation it is the first thing I read as this sets out the parameters for my management responsibilities and the expectations for me as an employee and as an employer. Now whilst the HR documents are many it is crucial to be familiar with them before you need them as every organisation, I have ever worked for has had nuances.

Supervision

Formal supervision is a fundamental responsibility for managers, it provides a focused time for the manager and the staff member to discuss the roles and responsibilities of the job, to monitor performance and to provide support. A supervision contract should be established for every supervision management relationship.
